Sustainability Policy
Canned Foods Sweden AB works to provide safe, sustainable, and responsibly produced food products. We place clear requirements on our suppliers and ensure that all products we import meet the standards for sustainability, food safety, hygiene, traceability, and packaging responsibility.
Canned Foods Sweden AB is committed to long‑term work to:
- reduce environmental impact
- ensure high quality and safe food handling
- comply with the EU’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)
1. Supplier Requirements
1.1 Hygiene and Safe Handling
Suppliers must have documented procedures in accordance with Good Hygiene Practice (GHP). This includes cleanliness, hygiene, safe handling of food products, and control of facilities and equipment.
1.2 Independent Audits
Suppliers must demonstrate that their facilities are regularly inspected by authorities or independent certification bodies, for example through:
- BRC Global Standard for Food Safety
- IFS Food Standard
- FSSC 22000 – Food Safety System Certification
1.3 Documentation
Suppliers must provide complete documentation regarding:
- packaging materials (DoC)
- food safety
- traceability
2. Packaging Requirements under PPWR
Canned Foods Sweden AB will comply with the EU’s new rules for packaging and waste. This means that all packaging used for our products must:
- consist of materials that can be separated and sorted
- be free from non‑recyclable materials
- be designed using as little material as possible
- be clearly labelled with correct sorting information
- contain recycled material where possible and permitted
Suppliers must demonstrate that the packaging meets PPWR recyclability requirements by 2030.
3. Product‑Specific Documentation Requirements
For each imported product, the following documentation must be available:
- a complete description of the packaging materials
- certificates showing that the material is approved for food contact under EU legislation
- information on how the packaging should be sorted
- information on batch numbers and traceability
4. Hygiene and Food Safety
Canned Foods Sweden AB follows the Swedish Food Agency’s guidelines for Good Hygiene Practice (GHP) and ensures through controls and routines that transport operations meet the requirements for safe and hygienic handling. The company requires transport providers to supply documentation demonstrating that hygiene procedures are followed in accordance with applicable regulations.
Controls performed include:
- visual inspection of cargo areas
- inspection of packaging condition
- receiving inspections upon delivery
- verification of transport documentation
5. Scope 1, 2 and 3 Emissions
Canned Foods Sweden AB follows the emission categories defined in the GHG Protocol.
5.1 Scope 1 – Direct Emissions
Direct emissions are very limited and consist solely of fuel consumption in the company’s own battery‑electric and hybrid vehicles. These emissions represent a very small share of the company’s total climate impact.
5.2 Scope 2 – Indirect Energy‑Related Emissions
Scope 2 emissions are limited because electricity consumption in the office and warehouse is included in the rent and supplied by the property owner, which means the company has little ability to influence the energy source.
5.3 Scope 3 – Other Indirect Emissions
Scope 3 is the largest emission category and includes:
- transport and distribution
- packaging materials
- waste and product disposal
6. Traceability
Canned Foods Sweden AB must always be able to trace each product:
- one step back to the supplier
- one step forward to the customer
All information regarding batch numbers, deliveries, and documentation must be stored and available upon request.
7. Audits and Follow‑Up
The company conducts:
- annual internal reviews of routines and documentation
- assessments of packaging materials and sustainability requirements
- updates of the policy when laws or requirements change
